Are you getting ready for the ultimate fall getaway but aren’t too sure what to bring while exploring Prince Albert National Park and Lake Waskeiu? Autumn is a magical time of year in Saskatchewan, and Prince Albert National Park puts the province’s full glory on display with local forests transforming into vibrant canvasses of red, orange and gold all season long.
Nestled on the serene shores of Lake Waskesiu, Kapasiwin Bungalows is here to help adventurers make the most of their time in Prince Albert National Park all year round. We love welcoming guests during the peak summer months and are always excited to help people explore during the lesser-known shoulder seasons of fall and spring.
Below, we’ll cover a few things to keep in mind if you’re visiting Lake Waskesiu and Prince Albert during the fall. Read on to learn more!
Layer Up for Fall Weather!
The great outdoors can be fickle regarding weather, regardless of the season, and the fall is no exception. Dipping temperatures can bring cooler days that are ideal for a cozy experience–with the right clothing! Plan to pack layers that are suitable for warm days and leave you prepared in case of early snowfall and colder temperatures.
We advise packing:
- Warm sweaters/hoodies
- Long-sleeved shirts and thermal tops
- Weatherproof jacket
- Hats/mitts/scarves
Footwear for Every Adventure
Footwear is worthy of its own separate mention. While you’re welcome to bring sandals and slippers while staying in one of our cozy cottages, you’ll want to bring better footwear if you plan on exploring local trails. Bring sturdy hiking boots, casual sneakers for easy walks, and pack enough socks to be able to swap wet pairs out as needed.
Outdoor Essentials
It can be easy to forget to bring outdoor essentials when exploring on cooler days when the sun is less of an obvious concern. It’s important to follow best outdoor preparedness and always bring an appropriate daypack, a water bottle, and optional equipment like cameras, binoculars, and your phone to help document your adventures.
Comfort and Entertainment
One of the best parts of renting a cottage at Kapasiwin Bungalows is that, in addition to being right in front of Lake Waskesiu, you’ll also have ample living space for games and family activities once you’re done exploring for the day. Bring your favourite snacks (our cabins feature fully-equipped kitchens!), board games, books, and more, so you’ll feel right at home while relaxing in the wild!
Safety and Essentials
Just like the Boy Scouts say, it’s important to always be prepared when venturing into the wild! Even though our cabins are full of modern comforts that make it easy to relax with peace of mind, those planning on hiking and adventuring should always prepare by bringing a first aid kit, bug spray and sunscreen, extra water, and other essentials to stay safe. You’ll also want to bring travel essentials like toiletries and portable detergent if you plan on a longer stay. If you happen to forget things at home, there’s no need to stress. Our store has you covered!
